Muk Haircare is an exciting Australian-owned professional haircare brand. Founded in Australia in 2006, muk embarked on a journey to develop a brand that went against the trend of all other haircare brands. Founders, Mark Gariglio, Scott Reynolds and Janelle Reynolds, set out to create a product range that not only outperformed market leaders, but also grabbed the attention of the market place with a somewhat cheeky approach to their marketing.
Products such as ‘Filthy muk’ ‘Kinky muk’, ’Fat muk’ and ‘Hot muk’ are hitting a chord with stylists and consumers ready to break out of the mould of ‘me too’ products and marketing and wanting to try a range that is simple to understand and use, with the ingredients and technology that works!
Founder Mark Gariglio says, “When my partners and I thought about developing a haircare range, we asked ourselves first, why does haircare have to be so mundane in it’s approach to capturing the attention of consumers? Why can’t we produce high quality and performance products and add some fun and a fresh attitude to our marketing mix?”
And that Muk did – with growing distribution and a rising reputation in both the national and international markets, Muk can be found in hairdressing salons in Australia and around the world including the UK, USA, Canada, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Norway, Hong Kong, New Zealand, South Africa and Iceland to name a few.
Marks says’ “Muk was developed to fill a gap in the market place for a haircare brand that would grab the imagination of the market place who are constantly being bombarded by ‘scientific jargon’ and magical claims. Our products are innovative, effective, high performance products that work. We wanted to bring the fun back into haircare and make some bold statements that consumers and hairdressers would identify clearly with muk.”
Muk launched its first product ‘Hard muk’ in late 2006. With this one product, muk became an overnight success, outselling many of the industry leading brands within weeks in the men’s styling mud category. In 2008 the company quantified this performance by being voted as finalist for the AHFA 2008 ‘Best New Product Award’ and winning ‘Most Innovative Marketing Campaign’ at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards 2012. In the next 2 weeks, muk will be backstage at New York Fashion Week as sponsor of Australian designers Michael Lo Sordo and Christopher Esber!
