Femme Fatale Cosmetics is an independent cosmetics company based in Brisbane, owned and operated by Sophie Broadbent. We specialise in hand-blended mineral based cosmetics at internationally competitive pricing.
We opened in mid/late 2011 and regularly expand to include a larger variety of products in our range. Currently we have a vast selection of eye shadows (including duochrome and colour-shifting shades that we are most noted for), illuminators, blushes and nail polishes. Although we are a small home based business, every month our reputation grows both nationally and internationally as being an affordable cosmetics line with unique quality products and fantastic customer service. We pride ourselves on producing the best products we can, products which take months to formulate – there is no guide book for what we do!
We are one of a handful of indie cosmetic companies in Australia, which makes us even more so a unique cosmetics brand. We don’t repack micas, we don’t resell private label products and we don’t have our products manufactured elsewhere then stick our label on it. Everything we sell is made by us and is the result of months of hard work and passion! We offer many vegan-friendly products and we also do not use Talc, Bismuth Oxychloride, cheap glitters, or ingredients containing parabens.
One of our biggest challenges (and successes) has been that we have internationally competitive pricing. Our product pricing is relatively on par with US indie cosmetic company pricing. This is fabulous news for Australians because it means we are extremely affordable – and this matters a lot in this day and age where budgeting is a necessity for most Australians. Our colours are just as pigmented – if not more complex – then high end label shades; the only difference being you can save up a 5th of the cost by purchasing from Femme Fatale in addition to supporting a local business. We also offer samples on most of our products, allowing customers to test a shade before committing to a full size.
We’d like to thank Adelaide Beauty Conference in inviting us to be part of the sponsorship for the 2012 conference, and we’re thrilled to be able to contribute a selection of our products to the attendees. We hope you all enjoy the products you receive as well as having a fantastic time on the day. Please feel free to contact us with any queries you may have about our company or products – we are always more than happy to assist where we can.
In 2001 when young, inspirational businesswomen Melanie Gleeson and Belinda Fraser were looking for a name for their first day spa, they wanted something that was unique, beauty-oriented and quintessentially Australian. Someone suggested the indigenous Australian word for ‘beautiful’; and so began the ‘endota’ story.
Melanie and Belinda started endota after indentifying a gap in the Australian beauty market. They could see that women wanted to go to the one place for waxing, manis, pedis, spray tanning, facials, massage and body treatments. They wanted a sublime, contemporary, relaxed spa environment. But they also wanted to feel confident that they would walk out with results.
endota spa would fill that gap, and along the way become the largest spa network in Australia. There are now 70 endota spa locations; at least one in every state and territory.
endota uses all natural and certified organic all-Australian ingredients. This helps to protect Australian waterways, Australian land and Australian skins from chemicals and pesticides. 1% of all organic skin care sales are donated to Bush Heritage Australia to help preserve unique Australian land, wildlife and waterways.
endota’s strong environmental philosophy is a direct reflection of Melanie and Belinda’s personal beliefs. The endota founders went to the same high school – a school whose motto was ‘respect for self, respect for others and respect for the environment’.
Driven by this philosophy, Melanie and Belinda were determined that their business would open up opportunities for endota women to determine their own financial destinies. Their first goal was to lift the confidence of therapists; ensuring that they could take pride in their work and experience a fulfilling career. endota now lead the spa industry for training and education; with a comprehensive, in-house training program, and a strong partnership with Elly Lukas Beauty School.
Their next goal was to establish a franchise model that would make it easy for women to own their own businesses, and benefit from the support of a female-oriented network. Today, 77% of endota’s 77 franchisees are women. 72% work in partnerships, allowing them the flexibility to structure their work lives around their family responsibilities.
endota, Melanie and Belinda are strong champions of the local Australian beauty industry. At a time when many local businesses are suffering from the effects of global competition, and an inability to compete with big, global brands, endota is going from strength to strength. Revenue in endota spas climbed 11% over the past year. New endota spas continue to open bi-monthly, and endota therapists are regularly recognised and awarded for their achievements.
In Australia, endota is now THE spa brand to be reckoned with. Melanie and Belinda have absolutely no doubt that this success is a direct result of the faith, time and education they invest in Australian Beauty Industry people. And hundreds of thousands of ahhh-inspired endota clients Australia-wide clearly agree.

As a 100% Australian owned and made brand, we were excited to learn that the theme for this year’s ABC event was ‘Australian brands’. In an industry as large & crowded as ours, supporting local Australian brands is critical to their future & ongoing success. Globally, Australian brands are known and applauded for their unparalleled quality and efficacy. It is only through continued support from the media that these wonderful brands will continue to get the recognition they deserve. Just like the Australian Beauty blogging community, it is an industry brimming with passionate, authentic and inspirational players – one we’re certainly proud to be a part of.
Urban Rituelle is thrilled to be a sponsor of the upcoming Adelaide Beauty Conference. To us, working with and supporting a group that are as passionate about beautiful Australian-made products as we are is the perfect partnership! We wish everyone a wonderful time during the conference and look forward to hearing all about it. For further information on the brand and product range, please visit us at Urbanrituelle.com.au
Muk Haircare is an exciting Australian-owned professional haircare brand. Founded in Australia in 2006, muk embarked on a journey to develop a brand that went against the trend of all other haircare brands. Founders, Mark Gariglio, Scott Reynolds and Janelle Reynolds, set out to create a product range that not only outperformed market leaders, but also grabbed the attention of the market place with a somewhat cheeky approach to their marketing.
Products such as ‘Filthy muk’ ‘Kinky muk’, ’Fat muk’ and ‘Hot muk’ are hitting a chord with stylists and consumers ready to break out of the mould of ‘me too’ products and marketing and wanting to try a range that is simple to understand and use, with the ingredients and technology that works!
Founder Mark Gariglio says, “When my partners and I thought about developing a haircare range, we asked ourselves first, why does haircare have to be so mundane in it’s approach to capturing the attention of consumers? Why can’t we produce high quality and performance products and add some fun and a fresh attitude to our marketing mix?”
And that Muk did – with growing distribution and a rising reputation in both the national and international markets, Muk can be found in hairdressing salons in Australia and around the world including the UK, USA, Canada, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Norway, Hong Kong, New Zealand, South Africa and Iceland to name a few.
Marks says’ “Muk was developed to fill a gap in the market place for a haircare brand that would grab the imagination of the market place who are constantly being bombarded by ‘scientific jargon’ and magical claims. Our products are innovative, effective, high performance products that work. We wanted to bring the fun back into haircare and make some bold statements that consumers and hairdressers would identify clearly with muk.”
Muk launched its first product ‘Hard muk’ in late 2006. With this one product, muk became an overnight success, outselling many of the industry leading brands within weeks in the men’s styling mud category. In 2008 the company quantified this performance by being voted as finalist for the AHFA 2008 ‘Best New Product Award’ and winning ‘Most Innovative Marketing Campaign’ at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards 2012. In the next 2 weeks, muk will be backstage at New York Fashion Week as sponsor of Australian designers Michael Lo Sordo and Christopher Esber!
Muk Haircare covers a range of styling products for men and women, shampoos, conditioners, masks, smoothing serums, thermal protectors and the popular muk Style Stick and muk curl stick – essential styling tools that are easy to use and affordable to buy.
We strongly believe in supporting the local beauty. As an Australian owned brand, we want beauty addicts to be aware of the innovations and progress that home grown brands are working towards and kicking goals with. Keeping the beauty industry informed of new product launches, events and trends allows the opportunity for consumers to make informed decisions about their beauty choices and excite them which we love to do!
FACE OF AUSTRALIA strives to excel in new product development and remain a leader in providing quality cosmetics that are accessible at every day prices.
Brand’s Story:
FACE OF AUSTRALIA launched its first range of colour cosmetics in 1997. Since then, the range has evolved into one of Australia’s leading colour cosmetic brands, entrenched in the daily beauty routine of thousands of women across the country.
FACE OF AUSTRALIA cosmetics is proudly owned by one of Australia’s leading manufacturers of colour cosmetics. Family managed, our manufacturing facilities have been operating in Melbourne since 1930 for four generations.
Why do you think supporting the local beauty industry is important?
Supporting the local beauty industry is very important in Australia for a number of reasons. Locally owned businesses build strong communities by building social relationships, creating more jobs locally, supporting local causes and keeping the money in the country, which in turn, stimulates the local economy.
In the Australian Beauty industry, a marketplace of local brands is the best way to ensure that local customers get the latest in innovation and trends, all offered at a competitive price compared to those of overseas brands.
As the beauty business is local to its community, they do not base their products on a worldwide sales plan, but are able to tailor their products to suit the interests and needs of their local customers, which are the cornerstone of their business. Customer feedback is taken onboard instantly and they are able to act on it straight away. They will go out of their way to answer your queries and offer the best, personalised customer service experience as possible.
Local beauty businesses also help keep more money in the country by way of paying taxes to the local government, sourcing ingredients from local suppliers where possible and creating jobs for local residents.
They will also be more involved with what’s happening in the local community and can contribute to local causes & events.
How does your brand contribute towards the local industry?
We use locally sourced ingredients where possible and also a local packing business to pack our stock and get it ready to ship to stores. We are actively involved in the Australian Beauty Blogging community and are able to pick up on key trends quickly and apply them to our product development.
We also contribute to a number of local events and causes. We have provided products to local schools which they can use in a raffle to help in their fundraising or if there is a local charity event being held, we can assist by providing some products for their goodie bags.
One cause that we recently contributed to was the Girls Night In, which is an event held to support The Cancer Council’s initiative to raise money & awareness for women battling breast cancer. This particular one was held at Miss Marley’s Bar & Cocktail Lounge and each woman attending received a gift bag full of Face of Australia products.
And of course, we are very excited with our most recent collaboration with the Adelaide Beauty Conference 2012. We believe that our local customers are key and it is important to have a presence in all areas of Australia and we are eager to hear feedback about the event.

1 Skin Solution: Bath and Body range grew from my passion of health and well-being for my skin. As a young girl I was always fascinated with skincare and the promise of indulgent luxury offered by good quality bath products. My background in modelling and personal training made me very aware of good skin care practices and the importance of using naturally enriched products.
Like most women, I have to juggle my time – family, work commitments and socialising squeezed in for good measure. Who has the time to regularly enjoy a day at the spa? We believe that every woman desrves daily pampering! At 1 Skin Solution we want to give you the ultimate home spa experience. Our range of luxury bath and body products is designed to leave your skin feeling
exquisitely soft and smelling gorgeous and your body feeling relaxed and pampered.
All of our products are made from natural ingredients to nourish, exfoliate, soothe and replenish your skin without stripping it of its important natural oils. The range includes our Bath and Shower Crystals with sea salt, brown sugar, minerals and essential oils to exfoliate your body giving your skin a healthy glow. Lime Thyme Body Wash made from herbs and essential oils, leaves skin feeling soft and silky. Our Vanilla Bean Body Cream contains oils of macadamia and sweet almond and vitamin E to help protect and nourish your skin.
We specialize in lip products to keep your lips smooth, soft and supple. Our Lip Balm is enriched with cocoa butter, vitamins and a hint of vanilla to help protect your lips against the elements. Luxurious tinted lip butters are also now available from 1Skin Solution. Packed with moisture, the soft sheer colours of these lip butters are also easily buildable to achieve a vibrant glossy finish. Brimming with natural ingredients, the lip butters are flavoured to match the tints, making it both an enjoyable and yummy experience to use.
We also do custom lip balms and this side of our business allows us to contribute to the growth of the Australian Beauty industry. It provides a very high quality product for B2B and then onto B2C. A business owner can customise a lip balm and put their business logo on the packaging. These lip balms can then be used as promotional items to give out to their customers or at charity events.
In the future we hope we can collaborate with other Australian brands and create a lip balm where proceeds can then be donated to an Australian charity. This will bring greater awareness to both brands involved and help those in need. “Brand dating” is becoming a popular way for fashion, food, beauty and many other industries to collaborate together and target an audience in today’s cluttered market. We believe this will provide support to, not only the Australian Beauty industry but, to Australian industry in general.
This September, it’s been 5 years since Australian natural skincare brand Sukin, burst onto the market. Today, Sukin is recognised as one of Australia’s leading brands of affordable natural skincare. In fact, over 99%* of Sukin users would happily recommend the brand to others.
Launched in 2007, Sukin is the brainchild of the Melbourne based O’Connor family. Experienced in product development, marketing and distribution, they identified not only a trend in natural and organic products, but also a growing confusion as to the difference. Many products were available, but the consumer was ironically paying a surcharge for the ‘free froms’ in their products.
With a single yet challenging ethos in mind, Sukin was born as ‘Skincare that doesn’t cost the earth™’
Sukin – Australian natural skincare, offers an extensive collection of affordable and effective, yet gentle skin, hair & body care products with nothing over $24.95 (RRP).
Sukin, five years later, are delighted to be a key player in the Australian natural skincare market, with over 3000 stockists nationally and over 50 products in our catalogue.
So much of what we consume and use now comes from overseas so we take great pride in maintaining our Australian made and owned status. Australia has a world-renowned reputation for quality, particularly when it comes to beauty and skin care products, and at Sukin this remains at the forefront of product development. Sustaining the first-class image of the Australian beauty industry overseas in turn supports the growth of the market locally, as international demand assists in feeding greater opportunities on our own shores. Sukin now exports to over 10 countries across the globe, ensuring that our local beauty industry remains top of mind, reinforcing that Australian beauty products are synonymous with quality and efficacy.
Not only better for you and your wallet, but also better for the environment, Sukin has worked closely with the Carbon Reduction Institute (CRI) since 2008 and has held 100% carbon-neutral certification since this time. Sukin is 100% vegan with no animal testing and no animal derivatives used. Every formulation is biodegradable and all wash-off products are grey-water safe. Sukin uses minimal and recyclable packaging across the range.
Sukin products do not contain sulphates (SLS, SLES) synthetic fragrances, animal derivatives, harsh detergents, propylene glycol, artificial colours, triethanolamine, mineral oils, EDTA or parabens.
Sukin Founder and CEO, Alison Goodger explains “It’s very humbling to blend and bottle the best nature has to offer in creating our products. We aim to source sustainably and enjoy our ability to give back by way of partnerships with the Carbon Reduction Institute and non-profits such as the Australian Rainforest Foundation or the annual Keep Australian Beautiful program”.
Be in AWE™ is the culmination of nearly two decades of dedication to the natural health and beauty industry by skin care professional Rebecca Powne, B.A., Ayurvedic Studies (Indian Medicine) London, UK, B.H.Sc., Clinical Dermal Therapies, Melbourne, Australia.
You may ask why I created my own skin care range. The answer is simple: after years and years working in the industry I just couldn’t find a product range that did what I wanted it to do. I wanted products with high concentrations of active ingredients, using 100% natural preservative system without harsh chemicals and produced and packaged in an ethical manner. I believe skin care products should be free of any potential irritants and harsh chemicals; therefore I wanted to avoid using parabens, propylene glycol, formaldehyde releasers or SLS.
The idea of Be in AWE™ was born many years ago when I was working and studying in London. It has taken me nearly ten years and a lot of hard work to realise my dream of designing, producing and launching my own skin care range.
When designing a skin care system I need to take into account a range if different aspects. What is essential for your skin, what are the main complaints people want addressed, how to make an affordable product using premium quality sustainable ingredients, producing a product that works, and providing this in a recyclable package which will not compromise the integrity of the product.
I knew early on what products I wanted to include in the range and I had done my research over the years about what active ingredients would produce the best results.
Finding a good formulator and manufacturer was not easy, but after more than two years of research I found a very well renowned and high quality pharmaceutical company in Sydney that could help me with the latest research, formulation and manufacturing.
Finally, in March 2011 the product was ready for launch. Early signs were very good and we received instant positive feedback from our friends and relatives who tried the products. In fact, as we have grown the number of clinics and salons carrying the range, the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. Beauty bloggers around the country have welcomed a new, fresh 100% Australian owned and made product range that actually does ‘what it says on the tin’. Our sales are growing rapidly, both at our partner clinics and salons and through our website at www.beinawe.com.au Our biggest challenge now is keeping up with demand!
We are also working on some new exciting additions to our product range. We are in late-stage testing of a skin polish and professional only peel. They should be available around October if all goes to plan.
Here at Be in AWE™ we are very proud and excited about supporting the Adelaide Beauty Conference 2012 and the Australian beauty industry in general. We believe local, ethically-produced, affordable skin care products that actually work is something everyone in Australia deserves.
